Supplementing qì
补气 〔補氣〕 bǔ qì
A method of treatment used to address qì vacuity presenting with general physical weakness, shortness of breath, fatigue, spontaneous sweating, soft weak soggy pulse, prolapse of the rectum or uterus, general physical debilitation following illness, and sequential desertion of blood and qì (qì following blood into desertion) in cases of massive bleeding.
Medicinal therapy: Use qì-supplementing medicinals such as astragalus (Astragali Radix, 黄芪 huáng qí), codonopsis (Codonopsis Radix, 党参 dǎng shēn), and licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo), which are often combined with spleen-fortifying medicinals, and, if necessary, uplifting medicinals, blood-nourishing medicinals, dampness-transforming medicinals, and qì-moving medicinals. Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points and CV. Select points from the following: CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), and GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
