Sore of the head or face
头面疮 〔頭面瘡〕 tóu miàn chuāng
A sore located on the head or face, usually attributable to contention between dampness and heat in patients suffering from accumulated heat in the bowels and viscera who contract wind-dampnessand are most commonly seen in children. A sore of the head and face begins with tidal heat of the head and face, itching, and the development of a papule that releases pus when it bursts. It may be recurrent, and, in severe cases, can spread to other parts of the body. It is treated by clearing heat, coursing wind, and disinhibiting dampness. Variants of
Acumoxatherapy: Select GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), and GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí); needle with drainage.
Point selection according to the affected channel: For the yáng brightness (yáng míng) channel, add ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), and prick LI-1 (Shang Yáng, 商阳 shāng yáng) to bleed. For the lesser yáng (shào yáng) channel, add GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán), and GB-44 (Foot Orifice Yīn, 足窍阴 zú qiào yīn), For the greater yáng (tài yáng) channel, add BL-40 (Bend Center, 委中 wěi zhōng).
