Comparison: Small intestine vacuity cold is closely related to spleen yáng vacuity. Both may manifest in white face and lassitude of the spirit, fear of cold and cold limbs, abdominal pain and sloppy stool, a pale tongue, and sunken slow fine weak pulse. However, small intestine vacuity cold centers around failure to separate the clear and turbid so that the main clinical signs are rumbling intestines, diarrhea, frequent ungratifying urination, accompanied by continuous smaller abdominal pain that likes warmth and pressure. Spleen yáng vacuity is characterized by a wider range of signs, Apart from the signs common to both patterns (white face and lassitude of the spirit, fear of cold and cold limbs, etc.), there may also be reduced eating and abdominal distension especially after eating, and signs of exuberant internal cold-damp such as heavy cumbersome limbs, puffy swelling, reduced urination, and in women copious thin white vaginal discharge. Furthermore, abdominal pain tends to be in the larger abdomen (above the umbilicus) rather than smaller abdomen (below the umbilicus).
