Small intestine repletion heat

小肠实热 〔小腸實熱〕xiǎo cháng shí rè

A disease pattern chiefly characterized by heart vexation; heart palpitation; mouth and tongue sores; rough voidings of reddish urine with scorching pain on urination; and in some cases, bloody urine.

Description: Heart vexation, heart palpitation, mouth and tongue sores, rough voidings of reddish urine with scorching pain on urination and sometimes bloody urine; thirst; red facial complexion; tongue red at the tip with yellow fur; a rapid pulse.

Pathogenesis: This pattern develops out of hyperactive heart fire, when the heat spreads to the small intestine, or occasionally when small intestine heat spreads to the heart.

Treatment

Medicinal therapy: Use Red-Abducting Powder (导赤散 dǎo chì sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on SI, HT and CV. Select SI-3 (Back Ravine, 后溪 hòu xī), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), HT-8 (Lesser Mansion, 少府 shào fǔ), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), SI-2 (Front Valley, 前谷 qián gǔ), and SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán); needle with drainage or prick to bleed.
