SI-2 Front Valley

前谷 〔前谷〕qián gǔ

Alternate names: 手太阳 shǒu tài yáng, Hand Greater Yang

Channel: SI, Hand Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Small Intestine Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the ulnar aspect of the little finger, slightly distal to the metacarpophalangeal (mcp) joint, at the border of the red and white flesh.

Classic location: On the outer side of the little finger, in the depression in front of the base joint. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The dorsal digital artery and vein arising from the ulnar artery and vein. The dorsal digital nerve and palmar digital proprial nerve derived from the ulnar nerve.

Action: Courses wind and resolves heat; disperses swelling.

Modern indications: Headache; eye pain; tinnitus; painful swollen throat; febrile disease; scant breast milk.

Classic indications: Cough and fullness in the chest; headache; swelling of the neck preventing turning; stiff nape; swollen pharynx; nosebleed.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.1‒0.3 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 1‒3 cones; pole 5‒10 min.

Point groups: Spring (yíng) (water) point.
