BL-27 Small Intestine Transport

小肠俞 〔小腸俞〕 xiǎo cháng shù

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the sacrum, level with the first sacral foramen, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classical location: One cùn and five fēn either side of the spine, below the eighteenth vertebra. The point is found in prostrate posture. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The posterior branches of the lateral sacral artery and vein. The lateral branch of the posterior ramus of the 1st sacral nerve.

Action: Rectifies the small intestine; transforms stagnation and accumulation; promotes the separation of the clear and turbid; regulates the bladder.

Modern indications: Abdominal pain; diarrhea; dysentery; enuresis; bloody urine; hemorrhoids; seminal emission; vaginal discharge; lumbar pain.

Classical indications: hemorrhoids; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); reddish urine; dry mouth; vaginal discharge; swelling of the feet; heart vexation.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 20‒30 min.

Needle sensation: Distension and numbness often spreading downward and outward.

Point groups: Transport point (shù xué) of the small intestine.
