Skin and body hair wilting

皮毛痿 〔皮毛痿〕pí máo wěi

Lung wilting (fèi wěi) that affects the skin and body hair. Skin and body hair wilting is attributed to lung heat scorching the lobes. The skin is desiccated and withered and is possibly associated with cough and rapid breathing. If it does not go away, the sinews, vessels, bones, and flesh may be deprived of nourishment, giving rise to crippling wilt.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and engender liquid; nourish yīn and moisten the lung. Use formulas such as Lung-Clearing Decoction (清肺汤 qīng fèi tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Use the general points listed under wilting (wěi) and add points such as BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), KI-2 (Blazing Valley, 然谷 rán gǔ), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), needling with supplementation to clear heat, nourish yīn, and moisten the lung.
