Kidney diarrhea

肾泄 〔腎泄〕shèn xiè

Persistent diarrhea that occurs in the early morning and is heralded by rumbling intestines. It may be characterized by throughflux diarrhea with clear watery stool, nontransformation of grain and water, or ungratifying defecation that resembles dysentery, but is not dysentery. Other signs include fear of cold in the abdomen, periodic cold of the lumbus and knees, soot-black complexion, pale tongue with white fur, and a fine sunken pulse. The main cause is kidney yáng vacuity and insufficiency of the life gate fire, causing a reduction in the supply of warmth and nourishment to spleen and stomach.

Medicinal therapy: Warm and supplement the life gate. Swallow Kidney-Quieting Pill (安肾丸 ān shèn wán), Rousing Spirit Elixir (震灵丹 zhèn líng dān), or Four Spirits Pill (四神丸 sì shén wán) with Major Seven Qì Decoction (大七气汤 dà qī qì tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, CV, GV, and ST. Select BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation and add moxa. See fifth-watch diarrhea.
