Blood accumulation

血积 〔血積〕 xuè jī

An accumulation of static blood due to qì counterflow and blood depression or due to injury from knocks and falls. Blood accumulation is accompanied by a withered-yellow facial complexion with crab claw markings, a lump in the abdomen of rib-side that does not move and frequently causes pain, and constipation or black stool.

Medicinal therapy: Quicken the blood and transform stasis with formulas like Dead-On Pill (抵当丸 dǐ dàng wán), Peach Kernel and Carthamus Four Agents Decoction (桃红四物汤 táo hóng sì wù tāng), Peach Kernel Qì-Coordinating Decoction (桃核承气汤 táo hé chéng qì tāng), or Rhubarb and Ground Beetle Pill (大黄蟅虫丸 dà huáng zhè chóng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Main points are blood-quickening stasis-dispelling points such as BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and Glomus Root (痞根 pǐ gēn); needle with even supplementation and drainage or bleed with a three-edged needle. For qì counterflow and blood depression, add CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù).
