Heat diarrhea

热泻 〔熱瀉〕rè xiè

Also fire diarrhea. Diarrhea caused by heat distressing the stomach and intestines. Heat diarrhea patterns are marked by abdominal pain and rumbling intestines. Pain comes in bouts with diarrhea. The stool is thick and sticky, or watery, or containing untransformed food. Other signs include burning pain in the anus, tenesmus, thirst with desire for cold drinks, and rough voidings of reddish urine.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and drain fire with formulas such as Scutellaria Decoction (黄芩汤 huáng qín tāng), Pueraria, Scutellaria, and Coptis Decoction (葛根芩连汤 gé gēn qín lián tāng), or Costusroot and Coptis Pill (香连丸 xiāng lián wán)

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, ST, and SP. Select CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū); needle with drainage. For qì vacuity with heat, add BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù) and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo).
