From Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, bì lùn). A condition characterized by smaller abdominal distension with pain exacerbated by pressure and difficult urination, and attended by runny nose with clear snivel (nasal mucus). Bladder impediment arises when wind-cold-damp settles in the bladder, causes bladder vacuity cold, and disrupts normal qì transformation. A pattern of similar smaller abdominal signs may result from damp-heat brewing in the bladder.
Medicinal therapy: Wind-cold-damp patterns are treated by warming and freeing with formulas such as Kidney Fixity Decoction (肾着汤shèn zhuó tāng); damp-heat patterns are treated by clearing and disinhibiting with formulas like Eight Corrections Powder (八正散bā zhèng sǎn) and variations.
