Bladder holds the office of the river island; it stores fluids

膀胱者,州都之官,津液藏焉 〔膀胱者,州都之官,津液藏焉〕 páng guāng zhě, zhōu dū zhī guān, jīn yè cáng yān

From Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, líng lán mì diǎn lùn). The bladder stores urine. The office of the river island is one interpretation of 州都之官 zhōu dū zhī guān, by which 州都 is taken to mean 洲渚 zhōu dǔ. Other interpretations claim 渚 to be a confluence of waters. P.U. Unschuld suggests that 州都 should be interpreted literally to mean Regional Rectifier, an official title in ancient China.
