Fortifying the spleen and disinhibiting water

健脾利水 〔健脾利水〕jiàn pí lì shuǐ

Also fortifying the spleen and disinhibiting dampness; fortifying the spleen and percolating dampness. A method of treatment used to address water-damp due to the spleen failing dam water manifesting in generalized swelling, oppression in the stomach duct and reduced food intake, abdominal distension, and sloppy stool.

Medicinal therapy: A classic spleen-fortifying water-disinhibiting formula is Poria Five Powder (五苓散 wǔ líng sǎn), among whose ingredients white atractylodes (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 白朮 bái zhú) and poria (Poria, 茯苓 fú líng) fortify the spleen, and polyporus (Polyporus, 猪苓 zhū líng) and alisma (Alismatis Rhizoma, 泽泻 zé xiè) disinhibit water.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, back transport points, and SP. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), CV-9 (Water Divide, 水分 shuǐ fēn), and BL-22 (Triple Burner Transport, 三焦俞 sān jiāo shù); needle with supplementation and moxa.
