Fire headache
火头痛 〔火頭痛〕 huǒ tóu tòng
Also fire heat headache. Headache characterized by throbbing or distending pain reaching into the tooth bed (the jaw) or from in front of the ear to within the ear, and attended by heat vexation, thirst, constipation, and a large surging pulse. Fire headache is attributed to yáng brightness (yáng míng) fire surging upward.
Biomedical correspondence: vascular headache, otogenic headache, odontogenic headache.
Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and drain fire, using
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST and LI. Select ST-8 (Head Corner, 头维 tóu wéi), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with drainage.
