Patterns

Blood vacuity heat in the bladder (膀胱虚热 páng guāng xū rè) is characterized by heart vexation and reddish urine.

Medicinal therapy: Nourish the blood and clear heat. Use Moutan and Gardenia Free Wanderer Powder (丹栀逍遥散 dān zhī xiāo yáo sǎn) or make a powder of black swallowwort (Cynanchi Atrati Radix, 白薇 bái wēi) and white peony (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 白芍药 bái sháo yào).

Spleen-lung qì vacuity (脾废气虚 pí fèi qì xū) causes enuresis with sagging distension in the lesser abdomen.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement the spleen and lung. Use Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng) plus alpinia (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus, 益智仁 yì zhì rén) and mantis egg-case (Mantidis Oötheca, 桑螵蛸 sāng piāo xiāo).

Liver-kidney yīn vacuity (肝肾阴虚 gān shèn yīn xū) causes enuresis with lassitude of spirit and dizzy head, and limp aching lumbus and knees.

Medicinal therapy: Enrich the liver and kidney. Use Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill (六味地黄丸 liù wèi dì huáng wán), possibly combined with Mantis Egg-Case Powder (桑螵蛸散 sāng piāo xiāo sǎn).
