Dry rib-side pain

干胁痛 〔乾脅痛〕gān xié tòng

Rib-side pain due to liver-kidney qì blood vacuity. Dry rib-side pain is usually attributable to excesses of drink and sex, causing damage to the liver and kidney and depletion of qì and blood, depriving the channels and network vessels of nourishment. It is characterized by persistent pain in one particular spot. In addition, there are signs of vacuity turning into detriment.

Medicinal therapy: Treat by greatly supplementing qì and blood and by nourishing the liver and kidney. Formulas such as Eight Agents Decoction (八物汤 bā wù tāng), Liver-Supplementing Powder (补肝散 bǔ gān sǎn), or Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill (六味地黄丸 liù wèi dì huáng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LR, KI, SP, and back transport points. Select BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), LR-14 (Cycle Gate, 期门 qī mén), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation.
