Disquieted heart qì

心气不宁 〔心氣不寧〕 xīn qì bù níng

A term loosely denoting disquieted heart spirit, heart palpitation or fearful throbbing, susceptibility to fright, heart vexation, and insomnia. Disquieting of heart qì is attributed to taxation of the spirit, insufficiency of heart blood, damage to heart qì by fear and frightand is usually accompanied by fatigue, tender-soft tongue, a vacuous or interrupted (skipping, bound, or intermittent) pulse. It may also occur in patterns of phlegm-damp, blood stasis, or water qì intimidating the heart. Compare heart vacuity and gallbladder timidity.
