From The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn). A condition in infants in which the anterior fontanel (traditionally called the fontanel gate, see fontanel) forms an indentation. A depressed fontanel is attributed to qì-blood vacuity and vacuous visceral qì failing to rise to nourish the head, stemming from congenital insufficiency, prolonged diarrhea, or chronic fright wind. A slightly depressed fontanel in otherwise healthy infants is not a sign of morbidity.

Medicinal therapy: Bank up the origin and supplement the kidney. Use True-Securing Decoction (固真汤 gù zhēn tāng). For center qì fall, use Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng).
