CV-1 Meeting of Yīn

会阴 〔會陰〕 huì yīn

Alternate names: 鬼藏 guǐ cáng, Ghost Store; 海底 hǎi dǐ, Seabed; 金门 jīn mén, Metal Gate; 平翳 píng yì, Flat Screen; 屏翳 píng yì, Screen; 下极 xià jí, Lower Extreme; 下阴别 xià yīn bié, Lower Yin Divergence

Channel: CV, controlling (rèn) vessel; shared point on the thoroughfare (chōng) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located at the center of the perineum, between the anus and the scrotum on males, and between the anus and the posterior labial commissura on females.

Classical location: Between the anterior and posterior yīn. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The branches of the perineal artery and vein. The branch of the perineal nerve.

Action: Strengthens the lumbus and boosts the kidney; regulates the penetrating and controlling vessels; clears heat and disinhibits dampness.

Modern indications: Inhibited urination; hemorrhoids; seminal emission; menstrual irregularities; mania and withdrawal; clouded spirit.

Classical indications: Genital sweating; pain in the yīn head (glans penis); cold in the yīn head; postpartum clouded spirit; pain and swelling of the vagina; enduring hemorrhoids; urinary stoppage and fecal stoppage; network vessel repletion: abdominal skin pain; network vessel vacuity: itching; sudden infantile epilepsy; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia).

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 10‒20 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the conception, governing and thoroughfare vessels; one of the thirteen ghost points.
