GV-28 Gum Intersection

龈交 〔齦交〕yín jiāo

Alternate names: 断交 duàn jiāo, Extremity Intersection; 龈缝筋中 yín fèng jīn zhōng, Gum Crevice Sinew Center

Channel: GV, Governing () Vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located under the upper lip, on the maxillary gum immediately below the attachment of the frenulum.

Classic location: In the cleft above the teeth. (Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn)

Local anatomy: The superior labial artery and vein. The branch of the superior alveolar nerve.

Action: Diffuses the lung and frees the orifices; clears heat and drains fire; brightens the eyes and relieves itching.

Modern indications: Mania and withdrawal; painful swelling of the gums; deep-source nasal congestion.

Classic indications: Nasal polyp inhibiting respiration; pain along the center line of the face; sniveling and nosebleed; excessive tearing; redness, pain, and itching of the outer canthus; periodontal gān with swelling and pain; pain and bleeding of the teeth or gums; facial sores and enduring lichen (xiǎn) in children; red facial complexion; heart vexation.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.1‒0.3 cùn upward oblique insertion or bleed with three-edged needle.

Warning: Moxa contraindicated.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the governing vessel and stomach channel.
