GB-15 Head Overlooking Tears

头临泣 〔頭臨泣〕tóu lín qì

Alternate names: 临泣(头) lín qì (tóu), Overlooking Tears (head)

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the superolateral aspect of the head, 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline, straight above GB-14 (yáng bái), midway between GV-24 (shén tíng) and ST-8 (tóu wéi).

Classic location: In the depression five fēn into the hair, directly above the eyes. The point is found by having the patient look straight forward. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The frontal artery and vein. The anastomotic branch of the medial and lateral branches of the frontal nerve.

Action: Clears the brain and brightens the eyes; frees the nose.

Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; tearing; nasal congestion; child fright epilepsy.

Classic indications: Eye screens; wind stroke loss of consciousness; chest impediment (xiōng bì).

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn upward transverse insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 2‒5 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the gallbladder and bladder channels and the yáng linking vessel (yáng wéi mài).
