Properties: Bitter, sweet; cold.

Channel entry: Liver and stomach channels.

Actions and indications:

• Clears heat and resolves toxin; disperses welling-abscesses and binds: Toxin swelling of external or internal welling-abscesses; heat toxin sores.
• Clears and disinhibits damp-heat; disinhibits water and frees strangury (lìn): Damp-heat jaundice; damp-heat strangury (shī rè lìn) with painful dribbling urination; damp-heat diarrhea or dysentery.

Dosage and method: Oral: 10–30g in decoctions.

Warnings: Excessively large doses can cause mild diarrhea. Use with caution in spleen-stomach vacuity cold.

Quality: Clean, leafy, grayish-green plants with roots in tax.

Production area: Most parts of China.
