Damp-heat jaundice

湿热黄疸 〔濕熱黃疸〕shī rè huáng dǎn

Jaundice due to damp-heat; a form of yáng jaundice. Damp-heat is the major cause of jaundice and is identified by signs such as generalized heat, vexation and thirst, and a forceful surging slippery pulse. Other signs include agitation, swift digestion with rapid hungering, painful rough voidings of red urine, and constipation.

Biomedical correspondence: Mostly corresponds to acute icteric hepatitis.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and disinhibit dampness; open depression. Use Rhubarb and Niter Decoction (大黄硝石汤 dà huáng xiāo shí tāng) or Virgate Wormwood Decoction (茵陈蒿汤 yīn chén hāo tāng). Compare yáng jaundice. More at jaundice.
