Properties: Sweet; cool; nontoxic.

Channel entry: Lung channel.

Actions and indications: Clears heat, moistens the lung, transforms phlegm. Treats dryness cough due to lung heat; dry sore throat; sores of the tongue and mouth; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); expectoration of blood; dispersion-thirst (xiāo kě).

Dosage and method: 9–15g as a decoction; or allow 1.5–3g at a time to melt in the mouth.

Product description: This is a white powdery substance that forms on the surface of dried persimmons. It easily dissolves in dampness. Many production areas melt it down and mold it into small flat cakes called Shì shuāng bǐng (柿霜饼 Kaki Sacchari Rotundula, persimmon frost cake). Th cakes roughly 6 cm in diameter and 6 mm thick, bulging somewhat in the center, having a smooth surface, and being brittle in texture. Both forms are sweet and cool to the taste.

Production area: Sìchuān, Guǎngdōng.

Etymology: Shì shuāng 柿霜 literally means persimmon frost.
