Japanese violet

犁头草 〔犁頭草〕 lí tóu cǎo

Kingdom: Plant

Origin in unofficial sources: Viola japonica Langsd.

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Slightly bitter; cold.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin. Treats welling- and flat-abscesses (yōng jū), clove sores (dīng), scrofula, mammary welling-abscesses (rǔ yōng); bleeding from external injury.

Notes: In the eastern provinces of China, it is used as 地丁.
