Use: Medicinal

Category: External-use agents / Toxin-attacking, worm-killing, and itch-relieving agents

Properties: Sweet and bitter; cool.

Channel entry: Large intestine, liver, and spleen channels.

Indications:

Clears heat; kills worms; relieves itching; resolves toxin; disinhibits dampness; stanches bleeding.

scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn) with damp itching; hemorrhoids and prolapse of the rectum; red and white vaginal discharge; intestinal wind bleeding; dysentery; bleeding due to external injury.

Dosage & Method: Oral: Decoct (3–9g). Topical: Decoct as a wash or steep in wine as an embrocation.

Warnings: Unsuitable in the absence of damp-heat.

Quality: Broad long thick barks are the best.
