Properties: Sweet and bitter; cool.

Indications:

Clears heat; kills worms; relieves itching; resolves toxin; disinhibits dampness; stanches bleeding.

scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn) with damp itching; hemorrhoids and prolapse of the rectum; red and white vaginal discharge; intestinal wind bleeding; dysentery; bleeding due to external injury.

Dosage & Method:

Oral: Decoct (3–9g). Topical: Decoct as a wash or steep in wine as an embrocation.

Warning:

Unsuitable in the absence of damp-heat.

Quality:

Broad long thick barks are the best.
