Properties: Sweet and acrid; hot; toxic.

Indications:

  • Dries dampness and transforms phlegm: Wind stroke with phlegm congestion and deviated eyes and mouth.
  • Dispels wind and checks tetany: Epilepsy; lockjaw; fright wind (jīng fēng) pain; headache.
  • Dispels cold and relieves pain: Wind-damp impediment (fēng shī bì) pain; eczema with itching.

    Dosage & Method:

    Oral: Decoct (1.5–6g).

    Warning:

    Contraindicated in yīn vacuity or exuberant heat.

    Product Description:

    Aconitum coreanum consists of both accessory and main tubers. The accessory tuber is spindle-shaped, slightly flat, with root scars at the tip. It is hard and does not snap easily. It is white and farinaceous on the transverse section. The main tuber is similar in shape but slightly larger, with a scar left by the stem at the top, and a wrinkled surface. The decocting pieces are thin slices.
