Source: Lèi Zhèng Zhì Cái 类证治裁

Ingredients:

Action: Fortifies the spleen and disinhibits dampness; dispels wind and transforms phlegm; frees impediment () and relieves pain.

Indication: Fixed impediment (zhuó bì), often triggered by cold or damp weather, and characterized by heaviness and aching pain of fixed location, fatigue, and lack of strength. Tongue fur: White and slimy. Pulse: Stringlike or slippery.

Category:

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: The main agent in this formula is Cāng zhú, which moves the spleen and dries dampness, as well as dispelling wind and relieving pain. Bái zhú and Fú líng strengthen the spleen and percolate dampness. Chén pí rectifies qì and moves the spleen and helps the transformation of dampness. When damp is depressed over a longer period of time, it gathers to form phlegm. Thus, ginger juice and Zhú lì are added to dispel wind, free the network vessels, and transform phlegm. Zhú lì is cold in nature, but when combined with ginger juice and Cāng zhú, there is no danger of it damaging the spleen. Gān cǎo is included to harmonize all the agents of the formula.
