Hemorrhoid-Dispersing Beverage
消痔饮 〔消痔飲〕 xiāo zhì yǐn

Ingredients
- Cāng zhú (苍朮 Atractylodis Rhizoma, atractylodes [rhizome]) 9g
- Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark]) 9g
- Dì yú (地榆 Sanguisorbae Radix, sanguisorba [root]) 15g
- Huái huā (槐花 Sophorae Flos, sophora flower) 15g
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 12g
- Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel) 9g
- Yán hú suǒ (延胡索 Corydalis Rhizoma, corydalis [rhizome]) 9g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 15g
Actions: Clears heat and dries dampness; quickens the blood and relieves pain.
Indications: Hemorrhoids characterized painful swelling of the anus, bleeding from hemorrhoids, dry bound stool, and scant yellow urine. Tongue fur: Yellow. Pulse: Soggy and rapid or stringlike and rapid.
Method: Decoct with water. Can also be boiled with pig's intestine, in which case the decoction is strained and the pig's intestine is eat with it.
Rationale: Cāng zhú and Huáng bǎi constitute
Variations:
- Pronounced heat causing the stool to bind, with painful swelling of the anus: Add Pú gōng yīng (蒲公英 Taraxaci Herba, dandelion), Zǐ huā dì dīng (紫花地丁 Violae Herba, violet), and Fān xiè yè (番泻叶 Sennae Folium, senna [leaf]).
- Copious secretions, with dampness or erosion around the anus: Add Huáng lián (黄连 Coptidis Rhizoma, coptis [root]) and Mù tōng (木通 Akebiae Trifoliatae Caulis, trifoliate akebia).
- Bleeding
