Five-Tigers-Chasing-the-Wind Powder

Ingredients
- Chán tuì (蝉蜕 Cicadae Periostracum, cicada molting) 30g
- Tiān má (天麻 Gastrodiae Rhizoma, gastrodia [root]) 6g
- Tiān nán xīng (天南星 Arisaematis Rhizoma, arisaema [root]) 6g
- Quán xiē (全蝎 Scorpio , scorpion) 3g
- Jiāng cán (僵蚕 Bombyx Batryticatus , silkworm) 6g
Actions: Dispels
Indications: Lockjaw with convulsions and arched-back rigidity (opisthotonos).
Method: Decoct with water, remove dregs, and add 30 gr of yellow rice wine and 1.5 gr of cinnabar.
Dosage: Take one pack per day for three days.
Rationale: Chán tuì, Tiān nán xīng, Quán xiē, and Jiāng cán all dispel wind and resolve tetany. Tiān má settles tetany and extinguishes wind. Zhū shā quiets the spirit and resolves toxin. Finally, wine enhances the action and movement of the agents.
Notes: The five tigers
are the five ingredients. However, some sources include Zhū shā as a sixth ingredient (1.5 gr, infused in the fluid). Yellow wine (huáng jiǔ) can also be added.
