Ingredients:

• Xiān hé yè (鲜荷叶 Nelumbinis Folium Recens, fresh lotus leaf) 6g
• Xiān yín huā (鲜银花 Lonicerae Flos Recens, fresh lonicera [flower]) 6g
• Xī guā cuì yī (西瓜翠衣 Citrulli Exocarpium, watermelon rind) 6g
• Xiān biǎn dòu huā (鲜扁豆花 Lablab Flos Recens, fresh lablab flower) 6g
• Xiān zhú yè (鲜竹叶 Lophatheri Folium Recens, fresh lophatherum leaf) 6g
• Xiān sī guā pí (鲜丝瓜皮 Luffae Pericarpium Recens, fresh luffa gourd skin) 6g

Action: Clears the lung and resolves summerheat.

Indication: (a) Damage to the lung by summerheat in the qì aspect with heat effusion, unpronounced thirst, unclear head and vision with slight feeling of pressure in the head; (b) greater yīn summerheat warmth after sweating with residual heat that fails to resolve, manifesting in the same signs as (a).

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: All the agents in this formula are used in fresh form, are cool, acrid, clear, and light, and thus are appropriate for mild cases. Fresh Lián qiào and Xī guā pí are cool acrid summerheat-clearing agents. Fresh Biǎn dòu huā resolves summerheat and transforms dampness. Xiān zhú yè abducts heart fire and disinhibits the waterways. All these agents together clear the lung and dispel summerheat, making a suitable formula for mild damage to the network vessels of the lung by summerheat. For serious conditions use Bái hǔ tāng (白虎汤 White Tiger Decoction)instead.
