Category:
Rationale: Dāng guī quickens the blood and warms the channels. Chuān xiōng, Niú xī, and Hóng huā quicken the blood and dispel phlegm. Ròu guì is hot, acrid, and sweet; it warms yáng and dispels cold, as well as helping to free the blood vessels and quicken the blood. When the cold is dispersed and the static blood dispersed, the mother can give birth. According to modern research, Dāng guī and Hóng huā hasten birth by promoting contraction of the uterus. Chē qián zǐ is slippery, downbearing, and draining, and combined with Niú xī, which conducts blood downward, helps to hasten birth. The Ròu guì and Dāng guī help to promote the production of qì and blood, ensuring that the formula does not damage right qì.
