Action: Clears heat and disperses fire; raises yáng and resolves depression.
Indication: Heat in the limbs with thirst and fatigue due to poor splenic movement and depressed fire in the stomach channel. Tongue: Red with white fur. Pulse: Stringlike and rapid.
Category:
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Shēng má and Gé gēn drain yáng brightness stomach fire and can outthrust depressed spleen-stomach fire. Fáng fēng disperses latent heat in the spleen. Chái hú and Qiāng huó, having a mild flavor and light qì, upbear and disperse, helping the other agents to upbear yáng, resolve depression, and clear heat. Bái sháo and raw Gān cǎo are sweet and sour agents that form yīn, thus counterbalancing the upbearing and dispersing effect of the other agents. Combined with Dú huó and Qiāng huó, they can treat heat in the limbs. The Rén shēn, Zhì gān cǎo, ginger and Dà zǎo fortifies the spleen and stomach, addressing the root of the disorder.
