Ingredients

• 忍冬草 150g
• Huáng qí (黄芪 Astragali Radix, astragalus [root]) 150g
• Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 37.5g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 240g

Indications: Painful welling- and flat-abscesses (yōng jū) including effusion of the back (fā bèi), intestinal welling-abscess (cháng yōng), mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng), and innominate toxin swellings, accompanied by abhorrence of cold and vigorous heat effusion.

Method: Grind to a powder.

Dosage: 6g at a time, once a day. Boil in one and a half bowls of wine (e.g., yellow wine).

Rationale: Huáng qí supports right qì. Rěn dōng téng clears heat, resolve toxin, and quicken the network vessels. Dāng guī quickens the blood. Gān cǎo resolves toxin. This formula is simple in composition, but very effective.
