Actions and indications: Clears heat, resolves toxin, and frees the network vessels. Treats heat effusion in the warm disease; heat toxin; blood dysentery; infectious hepatitis; toxin swelling of welling-abscesses (yōng) and sores; sinew and bone pain.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (15–30g), use in pills and powders, or steep in wine. Topical: Decoct as a steam-wash.

Quality: Supple stems that are maroon in color and have leaves attached.

Production area: Most parts of China.
