Source: Jǐng Yuè Quán Shū 景岳全书

- Qīng pí (青皮 Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, unripe tangerine peel) 3g
- Dà fù pí (大腹皮 Arecae Pericarpium, areca husk) 3g
- Xiǎo huí xiāng (小茴香 Foeniculi Fructus, fennel [fruit]) 3g
- Wū yào (乌药 Linderae Radix, lindera [root]) 4.5g
- Wū méi (乌梅 Mume Fructus, mume [fruit]) 6g
- Wú zhū yú (吴茱萸 Evodiae Fructus, evodia [fruit]) 3g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 2.4g
- Zhū shā gēn (朱砂根 Ardisiae Crenatae Radix, coral ardisia [root]) 1.5g
- Fěi zǐ (榧子 Torreyae Semen, torreya [nut]) 9g
- Xióng huáng (雄黄 Realgar , realgar) (ground to a fine powder) 1.5g
Indications: Worms attacking the upper body, which chest and abdominal pain.
Method: Stir the cinnabar and realgar into a strained decoction of the other eight ingredients.
Rationale: Fěi zǐ is the main agent in this formula. Modern research shows that Fěi zǐ is effective to a degree in treating hookworm, but also shows that it is most effective when used in pills or powders. The Fěi zǐ may therefore be ground and added to the strained decoction with the Zhū shā and Xióng huáng. These latter two agents should not be decocted because heating increases their toxicity. The other agents in the formula rectify qì, quiet the stomach, and relieve pain.
