Category:
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Fáng jǐ disinhibits water and expels yīn. Guì zhī warm the bladder and promotes the transformative action of its qì. These two agents carry the water-rheum from the chest and diaphragm out with the urine. Shí gāo is acrid, sweet, and cold, and drains lung heat. The Guì zhī and Shí gāo, though of opposite nature, perform complementary functions here in diffusing the lung, moving water, and outthrusting the depressed heat. The Rén shēn —or Dǎng shēn— banks up earth to dam water, and combined with Guì zhī, it supplements qì and prevents qì stagnation. Shí gāo combined with Rén shēn clears heat without damaging the stomach.
