Appendix-Clearing and Resolving Decoction
阑尾清解汤 〔闌尾清解湯〕 lán wěi qīng jiě tāng

Ingredients
- Jīn yín huā (金银花 Lonicerae Flos, lonicera [flower]) 60g
- Pú gōng yīng (蒲公英 Taraxaci Herba, dandelion) 30g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 24g
- Mǔ dān pí (牡丹皮 Moutan Cortex, moutan [bark]) 15g
- Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot) 9g
- Chuān liàn zǐ (川楝子 Toosendan Fructus, toosendan [fruit]) 9g
- Shēng gān cǎo (生甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix Cruda, raw licorice [root]) 9g
Actions: Clears heat and resolves toxin; moves qì and quickens the blood.
Indications: Heat toxin intestinal welling-abscess (cháng yōng) (gangrenous appendicitis with peritonitis), characterized by heat effusion with our without aversion to cold, thirst and dry mouth, tongue and lips, red eyes, nausea and inability to eat, and abdominal pain exacerbated by pressure. Pulse: Forceful, surging, slippery, and rapid, or stringlike and rapid. Tongue: Red or crimson (sometimes only the tip is affected) with a yellow fur that may be slimy or dry. Constipation and rough or painful urination are seen in severe cases.
Method: Decoct with water.
Dosage: 2 lots (packets) per day in four doses; or 4 lots per day taken a number of doses during day and night.
