Thorough Clearing Beverage

廓清饮 〔廓清飲〕 kuò qīng yǐn

Ingredients

Actions: Percolates dampness and disinhibits water; moves qì and abducts stagnation.

Indications: Phlegm-damp congesting the triple burner with fullness in the chest and diaphragm, cough and panting, generalized swelling, and inhibited urination. Tongue fur: White and slimy. Pulse: Slippery.

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: Fú líng and Zé xiè percolate dampness and disinhibit water, making the evil pass with the urine. There action is aided by Dà fù pí, which moves qì and disinhibits water. Zhike, Chén pí, and Hòu pò rectify qì and move stasis, and thereby help to disinhibit water. Bái jiè zǐ and Lái fú zǐ normalize qì and disperse phlegm, addressing the phlegm congestion in the upper burner. They work with Hòu pò, zhike, and Chén pí to disinhibit qì and free the diaphragm, and to transform stagnation and eliminate fullness.
