- Qiāng huó (羌活 Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, notopterygium [root]) 100g

Actions: Dispels wind and disperses cold; quickens the blood and relieves pain.
Indications: Lumbar and leg pain, numbness and tingling of the limbs,
Method: The ingredients are made into pills, which prior to use are mixed with rice vinegar and applied topically to the affected area under a bandage.
Rationale: Qiāng huó, Dú huó, Jīng jiè suì, Fáng fēng, Bái zhǐ, and Mù guā dispel wind-damp. Fù zǐ, Gān jiāng, Má huáng, Guì zhī, and mugwort warm the channels and free the network vessels. Dāng guī, Hóng huā, speranskia/balsam, and Niú xī quicken the blood and move stasis. This is sold commercially.
