Nine-to-One Elixir
九一丹 〔九一丹〕jiǔ yī dān
Source: Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn 医宗金鉴
Ingredients:
- Shú shí gāo (熟石膏 Gypsum Conquitum, cooked gypsum) 9g
- Shēng dān (升丹 Sublimatum Triplex , upborne elixir) 1g
Action: Draws out pus and toxin, dispels putridity and engenders flesh.
Indication: Sores that have burst but continue to suppurate and fail to heal. Can also be used to speed the healing of sores that have ceased suppurating.

Method: Sprinkle over the surface of the sore.
Rationale: Shí gāo is a contracting constraining agent that engender flesh. Three-agent sublimate, which is crude mercury oxide, produced by subliming Xiāo shí, alum, and mercury together, dispels putridity and draws out toxin.
Notes: The formula is so named because of the proportion of the agents.
