- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
- Shí yán (食盐 Sal , salt) 1 pinch
Actions: Supplements the kidney and invigorates yáng; secures essence and checks emission; fortifies the spleen and warms the stomach.
Indications: Spleen-kidney yáng vacuity with cold pain in the abdomen and diarrhea or constipation; enduring vacuity cold diarrhea; dysphagia-occlusion and stomach reflux; impotence, premature ejaculation, seminal emission,
Method: Wash and chop the fresh garlic chive leaves (if these are not available use 5–10 gr ground garlic chive seed) and add to the ready-made gruel and continue boiling for a short time.
Rationale: Garlic chive is an everyday vegetable in Chinese cooking. It is warm, sweet, and acrid. It enters the liver, spleen, stomach, and kidney channels. Its ability to treat impotence and related disorders explains its alternate Chinese names qǐ yáng cǎo, yáng-lifting herb, and zhuàng yáng cǎo, yáng-invigorating herb. In both these names yáng alludes not only to the male member but also to kidney yáng on which the former's vigor
depends).
