Schizonepeta Gruel
荆芥粥 〔荊芥粥〕 jīng jiè zhōu

Ingredients
- Jīng jiè (荆芥 Schizonepetae Herba, schizonepeta) 5–10g
- Bò hé (薄荷 Menthae Herba, mint) 3–5g
- Dàn dòu chǐ (淡豆豉 Sojae Semen Praeparatum, fermented soybean1) 5–10g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 1–2g
Actions: Effuses sweat and resolves the exterior; clears and disinhibits the throat; abates heat and eliminates vexation.
Indications: Wind-damage (common cold and influenza) with heat effusion, aversion to cold, headache, sore throat, heart vexation, and insomnia. It can also be used for initial-stage
Method: Boil the
Rationale: Warm and acrid Jīng jiè suì and enters the lung and liver channels. Effusing the exterior and dispelling wind, it can be used to treat either or wind-cold or wind-heat exterior patterns. It is principally used to treat heat effusion, slight aversion to cold, absence of sweating, headache, and painful swollen throat. Bò hé, used for medicinal purposes since the Táng dynasty, is a cool acrid exterior-resolving agent that address wind-heat exterior patterns. With absence of sweating, headache, red eyes, and painful swollen throat. Dàn dòu chǐ also resolves the exterior, but is also especially prized for its ability to eliminate vexation.
