Ingredients

• Lián qiào (连翘 Forsythiae Fructus, forsythia [fruit]) 12g
• Gé gēn (葛根 Puerariae Radix, pueraria [root]) 12g
• Chái hú (柴胡 Bupleuri Radix, bupleurum [root]) 9g
• Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 9g
• Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]) 12g
• Chì sháo (赤芍 Paeoniae Radix Rubra, red peony [root]) 12g
• Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel) 12g
• Hóng huā (红花 Carthami Flos, carthamus [flower]) 9g
• Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange) 9g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 3g

Actions: Clears heat and resolves toxin; quickens the blood and transforms stasis.

Indications: (a) Warm toxin characterized vomiting and diarrhea with cramp and jerking sinews; (b) measles occurring with pneumonia.

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: Warm evils passing from the exterior to the interior cause qì and blood to congeal and bind, manifesting as vomiting and diarrhea. Lián qiào, Gé gēn, and Chái hú dispel the evil and eliminate toxin. Dāng guī, Shēng dì huáng, Chì sháo, Táo rén, and Hóng huā quicken the blood and transform stasis. Zhike moves qì. Gān cǎo harmonizes all the agents in the formula.
