字 〔字〕 zì

Also character. A unit of measure used in ancient China used for powdered substances; the amount that could be placed any of the four characters appearing on a copper coin. See also qián-spoon. The term zi occurs in the formula names Wind-Expelling One Zì Powder (驱风一字散 qū fēng yī zì sǎn) and One Zì Decoction (乙字汤 yǐ zì tāng).
