Yīn within yáng

阳中之阴 〔陽中之陰〕 yáng zhōng zhī yīn

The yīn part of yáng phenomenon (i.e., a phenomenon that is yáng in relation to others). For example, the upper body is yáng and the lower body is yīn, whereas the back of the body is yáng and the front is yīn. The chest is therefore the yīn within yáng. Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, jīn guì zhēn yán lùn) states, Midday to dusk is in the yáng [part] of the day and is the yīn within yáng. This is to say, the afternoon falls in daytime (yáng) as opposed to nighttime (yīn), and being the decline of daytime, it is the yīn part of it; hence, the afternoon is one example of yīn within yáng. Compare yīn and yáng are divisible but inseparable.
