Yīn is engendered by yáng

阴生于阳 〔陰生於陽〕 yīn shēng yú yáng

According to the principle of yīn-yáng interdependence, if there is no yáng, yīn has not the wherewithal to arise. In the body, essence-blood and fluids rely on the transporting and constraining action of yáng qì to perform their functions. See yīn and yáng.
