Yáng brightness (yáng míng) headache

阳明头痛 〔陽明頭痛〕 yáng míng tóu tòng

1. Headache occurring in yáng brightness (yáng míng) disease in cold damage, which is accompanied by generalized heat with aversion not to cold but to heat.

Medicinal therapy: Use White Tiger Decoction (白虎汤 bái hǔ tāng) plus Dahurian angelica (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 白芷 bái zhǐ), or formulas containing cimicifuga (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 升麻 shēng má), pueraria (Puerariae Radix, 葛根 gé gēn), gypsum (Gypsum Fibrosum, 石膏 shí gāo), and Dahurian angelica (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 白芷 bái zhǐ).

Acumoxatherapy: Select LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ) and ST-42 (Surging Yáng, 冲阳 chōng yáng); needle with drainage.

2. Headache on the pathway of the yáng brightness (yáng míng) channel, i.e., on the forehead and sometimes stretching into the eyeballs.

Medicinal therapy: Treat with formulas containing Dahurian angelica (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 白芷 bái zhǐ) and cimicifuga (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 升麻 shēng má) as conductors.

Acumoxatherapy: Select Hall of Impression (印堂 yìn táng), ST-8 (Head Corner, 头维 tóu wéi), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng).
