Clearing both qì and provisioning

气营两清 〔氣營兩清〕qì yíng liǎng qīng

A method of treatment used to address febrile disease in which heat evil has entered the qì aspect and the provisioning aspect, causing high fever, heart vexation, unquiet sleep, thirst, sweating, crimson tongue with dry yellow tongue fur, and a rapid surging pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Medicinals that clear qì and provisioning include gypsum (Gypsum Fibrosum, 石膏 shí gāo), anemarrhena (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母 zhī mǔ), tender lophatherum (Lophatheri Folium Immaturum, 竹叶心 zhú yè xīn), forsythia (Forsythiae Fructus, 连翘 lián qiào), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), dendrobium (Dendrobii Herba, 石斛 shí hú), dried/fresh rehmannia (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地黄 shēng dì huáng), and scrophularia (Scrophulariae Radix, 玄参 xuán shēn).

A representative formula is Scourge-Clearing Toxin-Vanquishing Beverage (清瘟败毒饮 qīng wēn bài dú yǐn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on HT, PC, and LI. Needle with drainage at GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), PC-3 (Marsh at the Bend, 曲泽 qū zé), PC-9 (Central Hub, 中冲 zhōng chōng), HT-9 (Lesser Surge, 少冲 shào chōng), and prick them to bleed with a three-edged needle if necessary. Pricking the Twelve Well Points (十二井穴 shí èr jǐng xué) to bleed can also clear provisioning-aspect heat.
