妊娠中风 〔妊娠中風〕rèn shēn zhòng fēng

From The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn). A disease due to strike by wind evil occurring in pregnancy when blood vacuity deprives the channels and network vessels and the bowels and viscera of nourishment. Channel and network vessel stroke is characterized by insensitivity of the skin, numbness of the extremities, deviated eyes and mouth, and, in severe cases, hemiplegia. For deviated eyes and mouth and stubborn impediment (), treat by nourishing the blood and dispelling wind, assisted by quieting the fetus. Use Fangji Powder (防己散 fáng jǐ sǎn). For sudden clouding collapse with phlegm-drool congestion, treat by tracking down wind, opening the orifices, and dispelling phlegm with Saposhnikovia Powder (防风散 fáng fēng sǎn). For wind stroke with loss of voice, stiff limbs, and loss of consciousness, treat by dispelling wind and opening the orifices with Raw Rhinoceros Horn Powder (生犀角散 shēng xī jiǎo sǎn).
